Sensitivity of species climate envelope models to baseline climatology and effect on RCM-based future projections

In this contribution we show the paramount importance of baseline climatology in order to obtain reliable species distribution models. This is specially important due to the misleading metrics commonly used for distribution model assessment, which can mask a defective predictive system unable to provide meaningful future projections, as highlighted in this study. We warn against the use of the WorlClim database for species distribution modelling in the area of study and present to the community the high resolution climate surfaces of Cantabria developed by this research group.
