The Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF) is being extensively used for local weather forecasting, air quality studies and as a Regional Climate Model (RCM). One of the advantages of WRF is the possibility
of choosing between a large number of the-state-of-art parametrization schemes. However, there is no consensus about the set of schemes that performs better for each particular experiment. Frequently the skill depends on the variables to be validated, or the process to be simulated, and there is not such thing as a best model configuration. In the case of the Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) schemes, a number of sensitivity studies have been carried out, but they lack generality in terms of spatial extent and time span, since they are usually validated for a particular event, season or location. The aim of this work is to analyse the influence of factors like orography, latitude, and season in the sensitivity of WRF to the PBL scheme and in the systematic errors. In order to explore this, the year 2001 was simulated in a domain covering all Europe, using ERAINTERIM boundary conditions, and with three different PBL schemes. The simulations are compared with each other, with soundings and with bias significantly depends on the season, being warm in winter and cold in summer. This is due to the strong warm bias developed by the model in stable enviroments, specially when using the Yonsei University non-local scheme. Other variables show a similar behaviour.
